Freedom Fries: And Other Stupidity We'll Have to Explain to Our Grandchildren | Documentary Review

It's amazing how, after 9/11, we were told the best thing we can do to support our troops, to support America, was to go to Disneyland. The American culture is so dependent upon consumerism that we are left with only one recourse when attacked. Shop.
This is a rather low budget documentary, low budget is a relative term, that does a good job of explaining how the United States is focused on things that are hollow, empty, worthless, meaningless and at worst, destructive. Our country's leaders did not ask us to sacrifice anything after 9/11, instead they said "Keep spending money." (even if you don't have any).
At times funny and at times serious, Freedom Fries shows how little Americans focus on actual politics and instead focus on what brand name shirt they are wearing. If you lean to the left, this is a good film to watch. It will re-enforce your beliefs. If you lean to the right, you may find yourself arguing with the premise of this documentary.
Freedom Fries makes a lot of good points and doesn't necessarily bring down anyone who opposes these points. But it does show that Americans are too focused on things with little inherent value.
At 51 minutes long, it's a good length given that nature of the story and how it is being presented. I got the impression that this was, more or less, one man's idea (to produce the film) and as a result, there were limits with regard to some elements of production value. Again, this is relative. But a good story can be told with minimal equipment and this story was told well.

I give this documentary 3 out of 5 stars because it used humor (I like humor when making a point). While the story, to me, is a good one, it served as more of a reminder rather than an eye opener. If you lean right and are open minded, you may give it more points if this is a film that changes your perception.
I just wanted to say that I think your website is amazing . I am a beginner with an idea, and the info and articles on your website are easy to understand and answer many questions I have. I can not wait to start filming!

I am a professional filmmaker, and I applaud this site for detailing the ABC's of documentary filmmaking. It serves as my own checklist as I continue making my own movies ... Thanks!
