About The Documentary

Vigan is a city in Ilocos Sur in the Philippines. It is unique as the cities history predates the Spanish Colonial era and the town has preserved many of the old buildings from as far back as the 16th century.

Although the Historic City of Vigan celebrates its rich history with festivals it also is a forward thinking smart and well run municipality.

I visited Vigan twice in 2016 and shot as much footage as possible with the idea of documenting the extraordinary people and culture there.

As a matter of fact all the footage overwhelmed me upon my return to Oregon.

Recently, I found that I am having some health issues. So, I decided to put in the time to finally edit my project.

It was now or never!

I used Davinci Resolve for the edit and color work. I found it to be great but a bit taxing on my computer.

Viva Vigan includes some historical background and provides a look at the present day activities in the town.

Every May, Vigan celebrates the Binatbatan Festival of the Arts. I arrived a few weeks too early to film the festival and decided to return in late April to complete my project.
