How do I start a documentary when I don't even have equipment?

Question: I wish to start my documentary that will be about social issues affecting the youth, however I don't have any capital. I don't have a camera and I am clueless in the video-logy and technical side. However I can tell great story due to my public relations course. Please help, how do I begin?

Think about what you DO have. You DO have the passion and the desire to make a documentary. You DO have access to free footage and free editing software. You DO have Desktop Documentaries as a resource for free filmmaking tips and a step-by-step process on how to make a documentary. You DO have filmmaking forums (D-Word, LinkedIn, Reddit, Creative Cow, etc) where you can ask other filmmakers for advice and help. Jane, you have everything you need to get started right now.
